Our Story: The Heart of Meralume

Meralume Wellness is a day retreat dreamt up by Lala—a vision she shared with Chona, and together, they turned that dream into reality.

Our story began back in 2009. As each other’s very first friend in Los Angeles after meeting in an art class, our bond was (almost) instant. Lala is from Iran, and Chona is from Long Beach. Over the years, we’ve been deeply woven into each other's lives, supporting one another through life's milestones, art shows, and everyday moments.

A particularly unforgettable chapter in our journey was attending Spirit Weavers—a magical, outdoor women’s gathering by the river in the forest of Cave Junction, Oregon. Surrounded by nature and held in a community of women, that gathering planted the very first seed and spark for what would eventually become Meralume.

Meet the Founders

Lala

Lala brings a deeply welcoming heart to everything she does. Whether she is hosting Chona for a visit with an immaculate home, a gorgeous spread of fresh fruits, snacks, and warm tea, or preparing homemade meals (meaning Chona never leaves hungry!), Lala naturally knows how to care for people. Alongside being a devoted mother of twins, Lala is a passionate art therapist who changes lives one session at a time, bringing a gift for playful, judgment-free expression.

Chona

Chona has been teaching yoga for 10 years and practicing Reiki for over 17 years. Her love for holding space for others to feel comfortable and at home in their bodies comes completely naturally. With a soothing voice and calming words, she gently guides you back to ease, helping you reset your nervous system and unwind for the day.
